As early as 1362 the Hottinger name was linked to the political, commercial, economic, cultural and religious development of Zurich. Hans, Heinrich and Rudolf were appointed burghers of this city in 1401. To their descendants, their names have symbolized honor and distinction.

By the end of the 18th century their successors had made banking their principal activity. Hans Konrad Hottinger left Zurich for Paris, where, in 1786, he founded the bank that still bears his name. After almost two centuries of successful banking in Paris, the Hottinger family returned to Zurich in 1968. With the founding of Hottinger & Cie the descendants of the former burghers of the city firmly re-established themselves in their country of origin.
